Kubertis

Kubertis is a powerful Go + Qt6 desktop manager for Talos Linux and Kubernetes clusters. It provides a unified, modern GUI for browsing workloads, managing infrastructure, running pod operations, executing Talos node commands, and maintaining a persistent local audit trail — all in one streamlined application.

Designed for cluster operators who want speed, visibility, and control without switching between multiple CLIs.

Built for Daily Cluster Operations

Kubertis brings together everything you need in a clean desktop experience:

  • Cluster Management — Easy profile creation, switching, and credential management for multiple clusters
  • Rich Workloads Browser — 15+ Kubernetes resource types with namespace filtering, search, YAML fetch, and describe
  • Security & RBAC View — Roles, ClusterRoles, ServiceAccounts, RoleBindings, and NetworkPolicies
  • Talos Node Operations — Health checks, reboot, shutdown, maintenance mode, upgrades, and config apply
  • Powerful Pod Tools — Logs (with follow), exec with transcript, events, and an advanced pod creation wizard
  • Helm Integration — List, status, values, history, and uninstall directly in the UI
  • Manifest Editor — YAML editing with one-click apply
  • Persistent Audit Log — Complete local operation history with filters, trends, export, and deep navigation

Smart & Productive Workflow

  • Operations Shell with four focused sub-views (Kubernetes Resources, Talos Nodes, Pod Tools, Manifest Editor)
  • Rich Pod Creation Wizard — environment variables, ports, resource limits, labels, and smart Deployment vs Pod logic
  • One-click actions — Deployment rollout restart, resource delete, Talos maintenance, etc.
  • Built-in Plugins — Cluster Summary, Namespace Inventory, Pod Debug, Node Overview
  • Extensive Keyboard Shortcuts — Ctrl+1–8 for views, Ctrl+Shift+1–4 for sub-views, Ctrl+R to refresh
  • Audit System — Full operation logging with presets, summary views, and trend analysis

Everything is designed to keep you in flow while maintaining strong visibility and safety.

Safety First

  • Confirmation dialogs on all destructive actions
  • Red-highlighted dangerous buttons
  • Local audit trail for every operation
  • Status bar feedback with timeout
  • Explicit --yes requirement in CLI mode

Excellent Developer Experience

  • Native Qt6 GUI with clean, responsive interface
  • Full CLI parity — all GUI features also available via kubertis commands
  • Plugin system — easily extend with custom actions
  • Cross-platform — Linux, macOS, Windows

Current Status

Kubertis is a highly experimental but very capable Kubernetes & Talos cluster management tool. It is under active development and already can serve as a practical daily driver for cluster operators. There are currently no public releases. The project is intended primarily for my own use, although it could be adapted for specific user groups, corporations, or individual users. It is not a consumer-grade product; therefore, it would be offered under an individual licensing model rather than as a mass-market application.

  • CLI is mature and production-ready for scripting
  • Qt6 GUI is rapidly evolving with ongoing UX and feature improvements
  • Releases are built with comprehensive preflight and audit gates

Kubertis is for cluster operators and platform engineers who want:

  • a modern unified desktop experience for Talos + Kubernetes,
  • deep visibility and auditability,
  • powerful pod and node tooling,
  • and a tool that stays out of the way while giving you full control.

Built as highly experimental software to explore what a great native desktop cluster manager can be.
